Who We Are:
PACA is a ministry of the First Response
Center and is designed to provide support services to parents who have
children experiencing difficulty in the school system. PACA operates under
the policies and procedures of the First Response Center.
- MINISTRY COMPONENTS
- Partners: The PACA ministry is designed to utilize volunteers
to support parents in advocating for their children in the
school system. Volunteers will:
- accompany parents to meetings with school officials.
- model for parents how to express their views.
- coach parents on how to interact more effectively with
school officials.
- help parents implement plans developed in collaboration
with the school to increase the child's success in the
classroom.
- help parents access resources needed to implement plans
(tutoring, medical treatment, etc.).
- Parent Enhancement Training: Parent support meetings will be
held as a vehicle to provide parents with information that will
increase their knowledge about the school system, and child
development. In addition, the group format will give parents an
opportunity to ask questions related to their child's
development and school experience. Parent enhancement training
will provide volunteers with information to increase their
ability to assist parents and children.
- Tutoring: Volunteers will provide weekly, 30-minute tutoring
sessions to children who need additional assistance in learning
particular skills.
- Krayola Project: This component of the PACA ministry provides
school supplies and clothing to families in need.
- Girl Scout Troop: Plans are now underway to start a Girl Scout
Troop as a way of providing new experiences for, and building
confidence and self-esteem in young girls.
