DAVIDSON COUNTY HARM REDUCTION PROGRAM (DCHRP)

The Davidson County Harm Reduction Program (DCHRP) is a culturally diverse community organization whose mission is to reduce the spread of HIV/AIDS infection and reduce harm to injection drug users (IDUs) and their partners in Middle Tennessee.  This is done by providing IDUs with safer injection equipment and up-to-date information on HIV/AIDS, including risk-reduction strategies and safer sex practices to prevent HIV infection and STDs.  We offer referrals to appropriate health care and social services in a non-judgmental environment, including pre- and post-HIV testing and referrals to drug treatment.  Our goal is to advance individual and collective empowerment, teach harm reduction principles, and secure the long-term survival of our communities.

The DCHRP works to assist in “Any Positive Change” as people define it for themselves.  Accordingly, DCHRP sees abstinence from alcohol and drug use as one end of a wide spectrum of options for positive change.

The DCHRP is a volunteer-based harm reduction outreach with syringe exchange.  Syringe exchange reduces risk behaviors, actual transmission of HIV, and is the bridge for providing drug and alcohol treatment, healthcare, and other assistance as desired by an individual.
